Instructions for Dancing
There's a literary magazine with the motto "Brazen words by witty dames. Everything true. More or less.” ? Um, yes please, "Dorothy Parker's Ashes"
Dear friends, readers, subscribers— I’m thrilled to share the news that Dorothy Parker’s Ashes has published my essay “Instructions for Dancing.” The magazine truly is so cool (go read their “About”!), and I’m honored to have my work published by and beside such witty dames. They asked me to record an audio version of the essay, and I will asap. Anyway, go read the whole issue. It is wonderful.
AND—some of you have asked me what gives re: the dearth of regular posts here lately. It’s been crickets. Just working on other chapters and projects and things—all of which I’m excited about. I hope to get back here soon (I paused paid subscriptions last month, again with immense thanks for that support.)
In the meantime, I’d love to hear what you think of the essay. Let me know—here in comments, or email me, or come over, or I’ll see you with our the dogs in the woods, etc.
P.S. Thank you Diane Zinna for the time and space to revise this!

I really enjoyed this piece. I see the ritualistic aspect of dance in both of these examples. An outer expression of our inner emotions.
“ I felt something in me coming unzipped that I didn’t even know had zippers, and then the sensation of getting knocked off my stool.” - This line resonates so hard.
So beautiful and raw and true. Thank you for sharing your experiences and words. 💜
